Challenging Voter
Suppression Laws
The right to vote is the most basic foundation of our democracy and DWT is committed to promoting fair and open elections consistent with our democratic values. We’re proud to be litigating an extremely important ongoing voting rights case in Georgia, a state with an outsize impact on our national elections and with a long history of disenfranchising voters of color. We’ve partnered with the Southern Poverty Law Center, the ACLU, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., and WilmerHale, to challenge a voter-suppression law passed in 2021.
More than 60 DWT volunteers have contributed to the ongoing litigation, including initiative leaders Brittni Hamilton, Matt Jedreski, Danielle Kim, Adam Sieff, and Erika Buck.
Election Protection Work
DWT volunteers assisted with multiple voting rights projects preceding and during the midterm elections, including serving as nonpartisan election protection volunteers at local voting locations, where they helped answer common questions. Other volunteers staffed the Lawyers’ Committee Election Protection Hotline.
